Dr. Hisham Awartani is the Executive Director of the Center for Private Sector Development (CPSD). CPSD was established in 2001 as a subsidiary of the Palestinian Businessmen Association, which is the leading private sector organization in the Palestinian Territories. A graduate of the American University of Beirut and Bradford University in England, he has been involved in research and advocacy relating to economic development in the region for more than 20 years. Through programs that he has developed and administered at the CPSD, he is helping to educate decision-makers and the general public in the West Bank & Gaza and Israel on the issues of democratic governance and economic reform. Dr. Awartani holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture Development and is a professor of economics at An-Najah University in the West Bank city of Nablus. In this capacity, he is directing policy-oriented research on economic development, particularly as it concerns the performance of public sector institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the private sector.
